Setu launched own Centre at Village Salarpur Noida

The Setu Foundation as part of its mission to promote education among children under the Setu Shiksha Jyoti Education Scheme set up a model Transit Centre at Village Salarpur in Noida.  On Jan 3rd 2008 a SETU Shiksha Jyoti Kendra with a difference came up, it’s the first model Kendra which is almost a replica of the play school which privileged children enjoy, we wanted these Kendras to encourage children to come for education on their own and not force them to these Kendras. There is specially designed curriculum which shall ensure activity based learning with a lot of focus on hygiene, etiquette and moral science while ensuring basic education.

The current strength of the children at Salarpur is 45 and the number is increasing day by day. We shall be capping it at 50 so that the best inputs are given to the children. The Sarpanch of the village has been of great support in this endeavour of ours. The credit to ensure that the facility is up and running goes to Kusum Sharma- the teacher, Amar Kumar- project coordinator who was instrumental in setting this up and Paromita Das-the program coordinator who ensure the curriculum was in place and the facility was operational on time.

Setu collaborated to set up its First Centre at a slum in Delhi

In addition a training facility has also been created at a rag pickers slum at the Tuglakabad Fort in Delhi , this facility is different as there is no building here, so initially, it was open air and within the next ten days the residents of the jhuggis in the area helped create 3 classrooms. This shall be the most challenging assignment to be supported by SETU. Currently 150 children are undergoing basic education here in open air classrooms. This project is a joint initiative along with Bal Vikas Dhara a Delhi based Society and the project shall be solely funded by Setu.
